District of Columbia Streetlight Policy and Design Guidelines

DCI assisted the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) in developing the original edition of the District of Columbia Streetlight Policy and Design Guidelines and its 2013 revision. The latest revision was necessary to align the guidelines with changes in technology, updated DDOT practices and government initiatives for maximizing energy efficiency. The updated design guidelines DCI provided DDOT with well-defined policies and standards for a broad set of streetlight construction activities.

Preparing the updated guidelines required reviewing the latest technologies, design principles/policies, vendor interviews and agency interviews. DDOT formed a stakeholders’ committee to ensure that the project addressed all concerns during both the original study and the revision. The committee held a series of meetings to define the project direction and to provide recommendations on various aspects of the streetlight policy issues effecting communities within the District.
